Following on from my post about the Tier 2 players in the Premiership, here’s who played in Week 2!
Each week, I’ll also try and highlight a couple of the players who featured – this week involving two men who ended up in the bin!
Gloucester 15 v Saracens 17
G = Sione Kalamafoni
G = David Halaifonua
S = Titi Lamositele (replacement after 74mins)
Sale 27 v Worcester 13
W = Na’ama Leleimalefaga
W = Val Rapava-Ruskin (replacement after 45mins)
W = Tevita Cavubati (replacement after 51mins)
Northampton 42 v Newcastle 16
NS = Kahn Fotuali’i (replacement after 59mins)
NS = George Pisi
NS = Ken Pisi
NF = Eric Fry (replacement after 64mins)
NF = Taione Vea (unused replacement)
NF = Todd Clever (yellow carded!)
NF = Nili Latu
NF = Alesana Tuilagi
New to the Premiership, Todd Clever was surprisingly left out of the USA World Cup squad, amidst a backdrop of discipline issues. The details of Clever’s side of the story came out this week and it doesn’t make great reading, for either party, really, although you have to feel for Clever. Now at Newcastle, he’s started both games but spent 10 minutes in the bin in this match for Newcastle’s persistent penalties. Not that it would’ve affected the final outcome, but 12 points came while he was binned. A long season ahead for Clever and his Newcastle team but their “rivals” for bottom spot look equally matched.
Wasps 16 v Bath 9
B = Alafoti Fa’osiliva
B = Nikola Matawalu (yellow carded!)
Nikola Matawalu is a summer signing from Glasgow, and if he wasn’t on your radar before the WC, he caught the eye on the opening night, firstly with a yellow card and secondly with an amazing run for an almost-try. Had he not *just* fumbled the ball, you might’ve seen the Try of the Tournament on Match 1. He came off the bench in Week 1 and added some tempo to Bath’s attack and had another good game here, with 55 metres made and 7 defenders beaten, but he did turnover the ball 3 times. He also blotted his copybook picking up a yellow card for an infringement on Nathan Hughes in the lead-up to Wasps only try, a penalty try, which ultimately proved the decisive score.
Exeter 38 v London Irish 11
L = Halani Aulika
L = Leo Halavatua (replacement after 55mins)
L = Jebb Sinclair
L= Asaeli Tikoirotuma
Leicester 22 v Harlequins 19
L = Logovi’i Mulipola
L = Opeti Fonua (originally a replacement, but pulled out injured)
L = Seremaia Baikeinuku
L = Vereniki Goneva
So there you have it – a fair few performances, one try and 2 yellows!
